If you've
ever been to a play or musical, you're probably familiar with musical theater.
Musical theater is an art form and type of entertainment that combines acting,
dancing, and singing. Musical theater productions, also known as musicals,
are performed around the world. From plays at your school to Broadway in New
York City, many people enjoy musical theater performances.
Music as an
art of the theatre has its roots in primitive ritual and ceremony and its
branches in every modern means of theatrical presentation. Its functions are as
varied as the forms require and range from being the primary reason for
performance, as in opera, to mere noise, filling a vacuum in imagination for
some screen and stage presentations.
Musical
theater is a form of dramatic production combining acting, singing, and dancing
to tell a story. We tend to call these productions musicals, or sometimes
Broadway musicals based on their preeminent venue. You'll laugh, you'll cry,
you'll cheer, you'll sing; it's an artistic experience unlike any other.
